BRIGHTER: Key Aspects
Addressing Electricity Access and Youth Unemployment
The project targets the critical need for electricity in Burundi and seeks to reduce youth unemployment through education and skill development in renewable energy.
Alignment with EU's Sustainable Growth and Jobs Priorities
BRIGHTER aligns with the European Union's focus on sustainable growth and jobs, emphasizing the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) skills. This approach is geared towards supporting the green transition in Burundi.
Promotion of Gender Inclusiveness and STEAM Education
The project integrates STEAM subjects into higher education, tailoring them to support the green transition, and emphasizes gender inclusiveness, thereby addressing the issue of gender disparity in education and the workforce.

Youth and Women's Entrepreneurship
BRIGHTER aims to stimulate entrepreneurship among youth and women. This initiative is crucial for creating local employment opportunities and preventing brain drain.
Bridging Academia and Business Sectors
The project focuses on governance and human development, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and the business sector. This approach is expected to fulfil current and future skill requirements, with a special focus on entrepreneurship and value chain development.
Linking Education to the Labor Market
BRIGHTER intends to link education directly to the labor market, thereby encouraging job creation and involving the private sector in skills development. This strategy addresses the mismatch between education outcomes and labor market demands.
Strengthening Teacher Education and In-Service Training
The project also plans to enhance teacher education and provide inservice training to address the structural causes of school dropouts. This initiative is a step towards countering economic and gender inequalities.

Supporting Upskilling of Youth
By equipping Burundi's young population with necessary competencies, BRIGHTER contributes to tackling the country's and the region's socio economic challenges.
